How it works.

You meet your neighbor, sign a rental agreement, and do the work.

  1. 01

    Search by ZIP

Find equipment owned by neighbors in your zip code. Filter by category, daily rate, and delivery option. See the owner's first name and city before you book.

  2. 02

Verify, agree, and put a card on file

Pass a quick ID check (Stripe Identity). Sign a rental agreement directly with the owner. idle iron is the venue, not the contract party. Card on file covers any damage claim within 14 days. Insurance is optional.

  3. 03

Pick up. Photograph. Get to work.

Mandatory pre-rental photo walkaround. Pick up the equipment, do the job, return it clean, take post-rental photos. If something breaks, the photos protect both sides.

For equipment owners

Turn idle equipment into income.

Free to list. Renters pay you directly through Stripe, deposited to your bank. We take a small percentage of each booking — that's the only time we get paid. You pick who can rent: any responsible adult, experienced operator, or verified contractor only.

Built-in safeguards.

Identity verification, a signed rental agreement, and photo documentation at pickup and return — on every booking.

01

ID-verified renters

Every renter passes a Stripe Identity check before booking. Real name, real photo, government-issued ID.

02

Signed rental agreement

Owner and renter sign directly, not with us. The agreement spells out damage liability, return condition, and call-811 obligations for digging.

03

Pre and post-rental photos

Photo walkaround at pickup and return is mandatory. If a claim comes up, the photos do the talking.

04

Damage protection, your call

Card on file by default. Owners can require a refundable deposit. Renters can buy short-term insurance from Insureon.
